I have just done a clean reinstall of W7 home premium after a failed 10 upgrade. What you do is just buy a new computer and start from scratch. You say one thing then say another. I think the phone support person flipped some bit in a database which made my Product Key finally work.

This is what we want to do. That was not necessary and is why you have problems now. If you did the torrent route you may have gotten a hold of one that's been altered. And I don't have that. After an 1hr plus call with dell support this morning, they told me they would need to come and replace the hard drive and motherboard. You are basically upgrading Windows 7 over itself. However if i dont do this the computer will probably stop working in just over 3 weeks time and all the time spent on it so far will be wasted.
You prepare a bootable media, boot using the bootable media, select language and keyboard, accept license agreement, enter the product key, and select a partition to begin installing Windows. I just checked and it still works in Home Premium version! It gives you 30 days to enter a key and activate. Thanks for your help Rich! As suggested, a call to Microsoft would address this. However, if you do a clean format of your hard disk you are no longer upgrading your version of Windows so the key will not work in this case.
Hello, I just wanted to ask a basic question. Windows 7 product key not valid for windows 10. I don't know if this is universally true, but this is what I experienced. However, I don't want to start down this path only to find that it won't work technically or that it doesn't follow Microsoft's licensing. If it's an 'upgrade' disc however, the Windows 7 product key isn't the one on the bottom of the laptop, but should be on a label stuck to the disc cover? Wow, W7 is too smart for me! Your best option is to reinstall a valid license you have for either Windows 7, Windows 8.
The problem with this traditional procedure is that you need to enter the product key. The second requires a bit more work, but is far faster, because you don't have to sit through a second install. As you don't have it anywhere, you're doomed. Ultimate or one of the ,N versions. After the second install, delete the Windows. Robert it doesnt give you a key. This may be teh case here and the key has been tried too often.
